Anna-Maria Kemppainen

Master's student in Retail

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am from Finland and currently on a study leave from my job there as a Project Manager in an event agency. After my Bachelors degree, I've been working full time for four years but decided to take a break and do a Master's degree.

What did you study before this Master programme in Service Management?
I studied Hospitality Management in Finland and one year in Paris, France.

How is it to study in Sweden?
Studying in Sweden is very independent, but instructions from the professors are in hand if one needs them and professors are easy to talk to. Study life itself is fun and I have met many people from all over the world which is always great.

On an average day, what do you do at the programme?
Usually we have lectures in the morning and after that we do some kind of group work or study ourselves.

What is the best thing about the programme?
The program gives me different perspectives of Service Management; they teach us things that are current when also focusing on the reasons behind things and the future. I think the program will also give me a better opportunity to go further in my career in an international company.

Why did you choose the specialisation Retail?
I chose it because I think it will give me opportunities to work in various international companies in the future.

How is Helsingborg as a student city?
Helsinborg is a beautiful city where one can find nice cafes etc. But for the "real" student experience I recommend Lund. I lived my first year in Helsingborg and second in Lund and I think it was good to see both places.

Do you have a tip for new students?
Get involved with activities as much as you can and be active yourself when it comes to meeting new people. It is also good to start reading the litterature given for the course early!
